Who am I even?

Good question, I’m still figuring that one out.

Currently, I’m a software engineer working on digital credentials and identity solutions. While it does not sound like the most exciting thing, I do have the privilege of working on the edge of innovation in this industry.

Much like many software engineers, code spills into my free time when I'm not at work. I quite enjoy building on top of decentralized technologies, like bitcoin, and creating new apps. While I don’t think I’m very good at it and most of my apps don't go anywhere, at least they are fun for me!

Besides work & work-related hobbies (which consumes most of my life 😅), I enjoy traveling, spending time with the pup, longboarding, and going against the grain of life when I can.

I like living a weird and atypical lifestyle, playing by my own rules and taking the route less traveled. Social norms are unappealing to me and I often go back and forth on whether I like people in general. That said, I do consider myself a friendly and outgoing person most of the time. 🙂

I grew up in the country and lived my (short-lived) adult life in the city (Dallas/Forth Worth area of Texas). I love both sets of lives if I’m being honest. My version of city life consists of walking around to endless restaurants & shops, visiting various parks along the way. In the country, camping (of course) and my new hobby of off-roading.

I value experiences, individual spiritualism, and present situations above anything else. Think for now, as a long-time friend likes to say.

What the hell am I doing?

Still don’t know either, but let’s dissect that a bit.

I’ve spent about a year and a half working remote at a company that I rather enjoy. During this time, I’ve done some traveling, but not as much as I’d like. Going forward I’m going to be taking advantage of it much more - there’s no time like the present and who knows if I will have the same opportunities in the future.

The Digital Nomad route is resonating with me the most right now. Traveling from place to place with nothing holding me back sounds quite appealing! What will that look like? Hostels, Airbnb's, vehicles, camping, couch surfing, etc.

There’s going to challenges, I’m sure. It’s not all going to be an Instagram worthy lifestyle. I am an honest person so you’ll see it all. Who knows, I may abandon the whole thing after a few weeks. Right now I’m in Barcelona trying to catch up on some zzz’s that got wrecked via jet lag, so I have that going for me 😴

I want to document my whole journey through life, even if 1 person reads and relates to me. I believe I live a unique enough lifestyle that might be interesting to document. Hell, we all live a unique lifestyle that is worthy of documenting. All our thoughts, actions, situations, etc. are all incredibly valuable. On top of that, we’re becoming a society where it’s not as acceptable to voice our honest opinions anymore, so all the more reason to. I find that when I do speak up when others do not, I get enough private outreach that makes me glad to have done so.

What am I going to post about?

For one, I’ll be experimenting with this. If I find some topics that I enjoy writing about or some that you all like to read and/or engage with me on, I’ll write more about it.

So far, some of the topics you might expect from me are:

  • Travel

  • Digital Nomadism

  • Technology

  • Bitcoin

  • Decentralization

  • Privacy

  • Thoughts on current events surrounding the above

I have too many thoughts in my head that I don’t express. I’m hoping that consistent writing will help me collect and verbalize them better.
